How To Measure - Roller Shades

Quick and Easy Measurements:

Inside Mount: Measure the total width of the opening and subtract a 1/4 inch from each side.
Outside Mount: Measure the total width of the opening and add at least 2 inches, or the finished size desired.

Measuring for Roller Shades is easier than you think—just follow a few smart steps to get the perfect fit.

Choose Your Mount Style:  First, decide whether you’re going for an inside mount (clean, built-in look) or an outside mount (great for maximum coverage).

Inside Mount: Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window. Use the smallest number—precision is everything here.

Measure the height on the left, center, and right sides. Use the longest measurement to ensure full coverage.

Outside Mount: Measure the width of the area you want to cover. Adding a little extra ensures better privacy and excellent light control.

Measure the height from where the shade will be mounted to where you want it to end—again, extra height is your friend.

Watch for Sneaky Obstructions: Window handles, locks, and trim can throw off your perfect fit. Make sure to account for anything that sticks out.

Think About Light Gaps: If you’re not a fan of sunlight sneaking in, consider adding a bit more width to help keep those edges nice and dim.

Write It All Down: Record your final numbers clearly and double-check them. A few extra seconds here can save the day later.

When in doubt, measure twice and order once. And if you’d rather skip the tape measure altogether, many retailers offer expert measuring services to ensure a flawless fit.
